McGowan Academic Center at Capitol College offers cutting-edge academic programs, most notably the Space Operations Institute, built in partnership with NASA to prepare students for careers in the space industry. The addition of Cambridge Architectural mesh on the exterior of the building perfectly matches the high-tech nature of the facility. A Cambridge Architectural Solucent metal fabric system was specified on the exterior of the facility to shade the sun and reduce light pollution for the interior lobby area and second story lobby area of the McGowan Academic Center. The implementation of the shading system created usable space within the building that would have been otherwise unusable during the mid-day sun. The sun shading capabilities of architectural mesh also allow it to reduce solar heat gain, leading to significant savings on cooling costs.
